Dear editor:
The local newspapers in Cochrane provide much to our community in terms of offering residents a chance to find out about local highlights in the town as well as an opportunity to air our opinions on initiatives that our mayor and town councillors are involved with and that impact each one of us.
Having written a few letters about our roads and development and expressing my concerns, I feel it is high time I wrote about just a few of the fine things done by our town that benefit us and merit praise.
My first comment is in regard to the responsiveness of town councillors over letters written involving any proposal or existing condition in the town.
Recently, I received one phone call and four emails in response to an email I wrote. It was good to know that an email found its way to the councillors and that they took the time to get back and quickly.
Here are some of the other achievements that I am grateful for in recent years:
- The amount of work it takes behind the scenes, which many of us are unaware of, which resulted in the following: the street improvement project, where resurfacing was done to reduce the need for frequent road maintenance by doing a more in-depth job in the first place.
- The new Riverfront Park, which adds to the green space most of us value.
- Centre Ave – a needed north/south conduit improvement.
- Bike lanes, and all built with grants and Community Revitalization Levy funding.
- Continued commitment to sustainability goals, such as lower water consumption.
- The Family Community Support Centre, which works tirelessly to find improvements for our community, housing and supportive family programs through provincial grants administered by our town.
- Community volunteer appreciation.
This is only a few of the achievements and improvements to our town.
Hats off to our mayor, council and all the employees who work for our great community on the many efforts made to keep the town running well and improving daily.
