Devastation in Riverfront Park!

This past week, Cochrane Parks smashed out huge swaths of natural beauty in Riverfront Park, cutting down areas of wild flowers and natural habitat.

This past week, Cochrane Parks smashed out huge swaths of natural beauty in Riverfront Park, cutting down areas of wild flowers and natural habitat.

Remember a couple of years ago it was touted that the area was to be preserved in a natural state? The town therefore built “natural” asphalt walkways with “natural”' metal signs and tore out perfectly good bridges to replace them with “natural” ones with expensive stainless steel railings.

Today, this area was just recovering from that onslaught. Deer and their fawns have tiptoed back in, birds are nesting, vegetation is re-establishing itself: nature is taking charge again - a pleasant, peaceful place to walk or run or bike.

Wham! It seems Parks has decided to build a Frisbee Golf Course! It is so not natural! Thankfully they have not destroyed the area of Lady Slipper Orchids yet! Only 3 Frisbee baskets now, but apparently more to come!

Why is this? Why could Parks not put this activity (if the town is really in need of it) over on the gas line at Highway 22 and Highway 1A where the off-leash dog park was not allowed? Why destroy our fast-disappearing natural spaces for - what was that again? - Frisbee Golf?
