Thanks to MD of Rocky View on its recent vote toward the proposed Glenbow Ranch Area Structure Plan (GRASP).
Rocky View County staff have worked hard and held many presentations regarding the GRASP. They have devoted countless hours to create a land use development strategy outlining green space, environmental protection, and appropriate land use development for the future. The key word is “The Future.”
Define Change: (Make or become different).
For some folks change comes with challenges, but for most people we all understand that change is a constant in our lives today. Change was there many years ago as well but was possibly viewed differently due to the lack of information and the time it took information to travel. Land was sold by landowners, parcels of land were subdivided and new houses were built and new families called Bearspaw their home.
But things have changed and will continue to change as time goes by. The challenges for the agricultural sector will be marginal use land with limited production, in an industry were costs continue to increase.
So those landowners may need to sell to secure better land elsewere or they may decide to retire. Yes, people may want to sell an asset they worked and cared for, but they know change is a constant, similar to the weather, the economy and age. The demands for urban space from both Calgary and Cochrane will continue to grow in the future and demands for land from each will come but with an urban design and urban density.
So from our point of view the MD has done a good job on this proposed plan, which may help keep urban density out, and create a new or changed density with a conservation design and green space that will work within the current and future economy.
Sincerely Kim and Kathy Courtney
