Help support affordable housing in Cochrane

Dear editor: The lack of affordable housing is one of the largest social issues in Cochrane and one of the most complicated and expensive areas to develop.

Dear editor:

The lack of affordable housing is one of the largest social issues in Cochrane and one of the most complicated and expensive areas to develop. Cochrane residents have a chance to support an affordable housing initiative in our community at an upcoming event.

On June 11, the Homes For All Fundraiser is at the Cochrane Movie House and is being hosted by the Cochrane Society for Housing Options (CSHO). Proceeds raised will go towards the purchase of 13 two-bedroom rental units, which will be completed in August 2015. As with the HomeStead Building, these units will be operated under the Provincial Affordable Housing Program.

The movies offered are Spy (starring Melissa McCarthy) and an advanced screening of the new Jurassic World movie, which is slated to open June 12. In addition to the movies, they will have a silent and live auction, appetizers, cash bar and prize draws. They have some awesome auction items including an antique clawfoot bathtub and matching sink, hand-painted bathroom sink, area rug, a Stampeders jersey signed by Rob Cote and an Anaheim Ducks jersey signed by Cory Perry.

Tickets are $30 each or two for $50. They can be purchased at Family & Community Support Services (FCSS), Bow Valley Credit Union and Home Treasures (cash, cheque only) or at Home Reno Heaven (credit card, debit, cash, cheque).

It would be great to see the movies sold out!

Come out and support the hard work of CSHO.

Susan Flowers, manager of Cochrane FCSS and social planning
