Hoping for better public transit options in Fireside and Riversong

After reading the Master Transportation Plan for Cochrane last week I wanted to voice my displeasure in learning that Riversong and Fireside communities are not on the draft busing routes.

After reading the Master Transportation Plan for Cochrane last week I wanted to voice my displeasure in learning that Riversong and Fireside communities are not on the draft busing routes. I have already provided my feedback online but wanted to share my thoughts with my fellow Cochranites before this plan goes to council for review this spring. I understand we might need to start our new endeavour small and grow with the population. However, I’m hoping that council can reconsider the option to provide some level of service to our rapidly growing communities such as Dial-a-Ride or flex-route options.

The plan mentions needing to service youth, seniors and low-income families. Within our communities, we have a high school, a new elementary school, and seniors complex coming – plus a wide variety of housing options from multi-family and single homes to meet all income levels and needs.

Speaking to neighbours, I know we all have been excited for public transit in town for a variety of reasons – some of us cannot drive due to health issues or disabilities, some are trying to be a one-car family, our teenagers would love the freedom to visit friends and use town amenities plus get work. Not to mention the many other benefits to the town, our communities and the environment. In writing this I realize you may not meet the March 4 deadline to provide your feedback online, but please let your voices be heard by emailing council.
