Dear editor

Here's a direct quote from this gentleman who supports the Truckers for Freedom:  “I have paid more than $1 million in taxes through my life, a handsome down payment for my constitutional freedom”.

$1 million paid taxes is meaningless without declaring assets he has accumulated while he is paying taxes, presumably in the millions.

Amount of taxes paid can never be linked to constitutional freedom since this implies wealthy are entitled to more constitutional freedom because they pay more taxes, and is an example of how capitalism gone awry at the same time devalues democratic governmental structures.

Present constitutional freedom without concomitant personal responsibility opinions show how our democratic citizenry is lacking in civics education that studies the theoretical, political and practical aspects of citizenship, as well as its rights and duties.
