Letter writer off base on gas tax

Reading the recent letter from Theresa Kline, I could not help but point out that the intersection of Highway 22 and 1A is a provincial responsibility, not a municipal responsibility.

The federal gas tax refund is for "predictable, long-term, stable funding for Canadian municipalities to help them build and revitalize their local public infrastructure."

The key words here are "for municipalities." Neither Highway 22 nor Highway 1A are municipal responsibilities. I am more than happy to see the money get put toward public infrastructure that is desperately needed and will be well used. If it is of any significance, I recall using the current pool in 1990 when the town was a sprawling 5,000 people.

Regarding the suggestion to just use the new facility in Rocky Ridge: At what point do we start looking after ourselves rather than relying on the efforts (and tax dollars) of others, in this case the City of Calgary? I'm quite sure the taxpayers there did not fund that facility with the hopes of supplying recreation to the outlying communities.
