Further to the story “Cochrane Historical Museum gears up for 2016 season” in the Feb. 25 edition of the Cochrane Eagle: at 7 p.m. March 11 the King Solomon Lodge, Centre Avenue, Cochrane, Gordon Davies and Frank Hennessey of the Cochrane Historical & Archival Preservation Society (CHAPS) will present a talk on “Imagining A Historical Museum In Cochrane.” Doors at the Lodge open at 6:30 p.m.
Museums can play many different roles. Join Gordon and Frank as we look back on the history of Cochrane and consider what role our new museum should play in the future. They will look for ideas on how to develop and grow a museum and ways to enhance its value to the local community. Everybody is invited, and please bring snacks.
Gordon Davies and Frank Hennessey are both retired Cochrane High School teachers who share a passion for the history of Cochrane and have been heavily involved in the creation of the Cochrane Historical Museum which opened last summer and saw over 3,000 visitors. Gordon has lived most of his life in Cochrane and grew up in the museum building that was built by his grandfather in 1909. Frank hails from Nova Scotia and has developed a passion for the history of the Town of Cochrane.
