Newspaper Promotes Humanity

Mr. Carbert’s letter concerning his views on homosexuality based on the Bible contain an important truth.

Mr. Carbert’s letter concerning his views on homosexuality based on the Bible contain an important truth. He states: “Any lie told for long enough and loud enough will begin to take root in our society, especially amongst those who want it to be the truth”.

With this sentence, he has precisely distilled the very essence of religion itself. What else can one say of a book that starts with man’s creation from dust, woman’s creation from one of his ribs, a talking snake, a seduction and a murder within the first few pages? It sounds like a badly written mystery and goes on to depict how this “loving” God destroys all humanity except Noah and family.

My point is not to mock religion or God, but to suggest that a literal belief in the Bible tends to support extreme views that should be at odds with humanity and with compassion and understanding.

His statement of “having compassion and love for these people, but...” sounds very like the refrain we hear from the great asylum south of the border: “I’m not a racist, but…”

People whose sexuality differs from the norm are not sick and certainly have no desire to be “saved.” This is an insult to a significant section of society, which enjoys successful and productive lives like everyone else. Why is it that so many people feel threatened by those of a different sexual orientation? It will not impact your life and the “scientists” that apparently failed to find a genetic connection are sure that it is neither infectious nor contagious.

If you truly have love and compassion, then live and let live and you’ll probably never know they walk among us!

Good for the Eagle for its support.
