Today I witnessed a very disturbing incident. A bicyclist at the off leash dog area by the river (Jim Uffleman park) was riding extremely fast, and hit a dog very hard. This was bad enough, but then he rode off without stopping or even looking back. I've been walking dogs at this park for many years, and the cyclist behaviour has gotten worse and worse. We need to eliminate bicycles from this park immediately. There are plenty of other paths available to ride, but this is the only quality off leash area available in town to walk our dogs. There are even new pathways being built around the sports centre that cyclists can use. Cyclists have been acting more entitled than ever before, with less and less respect for everyone around them. It's bad enough he hit a dog, but maybe some of you would take it more seriously if it was a person he hit. Or a senior citizen. Or a child. Any of these could have easily happened, given the carelessness, speed, and the complete lack of common decency displayed. This was an extreme case, but this type of attitude and behaviour is becoming more and more common. Let us have this one space for our dogs, and ourselves, without having to constantly look over our shoulders for this disgusting type of person. It is not asking much to eliminate bicycles from this park. Let us walk our dogs safely. Dan Faas
