As a homeowner who backs directly onto one of the worst spots in the proposed Town of Cochrane’s new dog park, I just want to say to those person(s) unfairly calling us “NIMBYs” – how would you like to have not only the train and ever increasing highway noise but now a 30 space gravel parking lot added immediately behind your home?
A parking lot that will have people coming and going from early morning to late in the evening, especially in the warmer weather. Where people will leave their car running the whole time they walk their dog, and will stare directly at us when we are on our deck or yard as we will no longer have any privacy whatsoever.
Our own dog is going to be beside herself with the constant commotion going on behind our yard/fence. Unlike other areas of the park, there are no trees planned behind our fence to even begin to buffer the parking lot.
If I want to put up my home for sale now to get away from this, it will greatly narrow the buyer who will actually want to buy my home and therefore, it will decrease the equity in my home. This two-phase project is going to cost $500,000 of taxpayer’s money!
Furthermore, how many dog parks do you know of that are located directly behind residential housing with no large buffer of land in between?
Canmore is a community with many dogs and has a wonderful dog park that is large, can be walked or driven to and does not impact any residential housing.
We need to find a more suitable location and way to spend this large amount of taxpayer money – and no, it is not too late to change this!
