The proposed off-leash dog park behind the homes on West McDougal Road has become an extremely divisive issue. It is clear that the majority of residents with homes bordering the pipeline wholeheartedly reject this proposal. It was a poorly conceived idea right from the beginning to build such a park next to people’s homes.
To the proponents of this park, do you really want to force this park on residents who have legitimate objections to its construction? Is this the type of community we all want? Can we not work together to find a better solution?
Historic Cochrane Ranche is 136 acres of parkland, accessible by sidewalk and pathways from the downtown west side and Sunset area. Could we not find five to 10 acres of these lands and perhaps build a Western-themed, period appropriate dog off-leash play park?
Cochrane Ranche has existing infrastructure – parking lots, bathrooms, water sources, picnic tables etc. This would increase usability and enhance the historic value in our community.
Cochranites, let’s work together and find a better location for a dog play park, that doesn’t impact residential homes.
