After what seems like decades, and it has been that long, council is taking the necessary steps to build a second bridge over the Bow River to open up the south side of our town! Cochrane has been talking about a second bridge at this location since 1995.
It has taken this long to get the talk turned into a plan. I am in complete agreement that we should move forward with a borrowing bylaw for $8 million to get this project started sooner rather than later!
The fact is, development will actually be paying for this bridge. Time is needed for the necessary tax levies to accumulate and pay for this bridge. The down side to this is the time needed. By then, we would have grown another 6,000 people and the price for the bridge would have increased again!
Let’s borrow the money now and get it built, then use the tax money to pay this loan back as soon as possible.
Thank you council for the foresight now, and the plan now, to get this important piece of infrastructure built.
