Please clean up after your dog

To my fellow residents of Sunset Ridge, it is a privilege to live in such a beautiful part of this growing community. Now with the edition of the new park and the new K-8 school, no doubt we will grow even more.

To my fellow residents of Sunset Ridge, it is a privilege to live in such a beautiful part of this growing community. Now with the edition of the new park and the new K-8 school, no doubt we will grow even more.

As with any new and expanding community, there will be some issues that may arise. One that I believe needs to be addressed is the use of the park, mainly dog usage.

I have witnessed on a growing number of occasions, day and night, residents in the surrounding areas walking their dogs on a leash past the park. They stop and let their dogs free to frolic in the park unattended while they continue along the sidewalk. After a few minutes they call their dog back and leash them.

If their pet were just taking a leisurely stroll through the park that would not be an issue but, as we all know, these people are allowing their animals to use the park as their personal restroom, as the many piles of dog feces in the morning will attest to.

To those pet owners; there are no dog-poop fairies that magically clean up after your pet or that Fido’s droppings are reclaimed by the earth overnight with no signs at all that they were even there. These are myths.

If you do use the park at night, do not allow your dog out of your sight, please use a flashlight and please use the dog waste bags that the Town of Cochrane has graciously provided. Or bring your own, and deposit the bag in the receptacles located around the park. We all use this park, especially the children, please take care of it. Thank you.
