And we wonder why “politicians” have such a reputation for being self-serving? Once again, the aquatic/multisport project seems to provide a seemingly endless supply of examples. First off, the pool is now delayed from June 26, 2017 until July 17, 2017; and even this date might change. It seems pretty convenient that all the problems to date are being directed at the project manager Tango when I’m sure if closer examination of the planning involved prior to and during the construction would likely spread the blame.
Then there is the $5,000 budget allocated for a ribbon cutting ceremony and a $15,000 budget for a “big community celebration” in September. This will be spent right before and during a municipal election. As well, any funding shortfalls and/or cost overruns won’t be known until after the election. I promise you this Cochrane, I will be calling Elections Alberta to see if there is a conflict of interest.
Regardless of the delays, or my inquiries, the pool will be operational on/before/during the election; not to worry incumbents, your taxpayer funded election bonus will be operational just in time to help you win the next election! Dan Cunin
