Property assessment 'ridiculous'

I just about choked on my Corn Flakes when I opened my property assessment from the Town of Cochrane. We live in a bareland condo on Quigley Drive consisting of 14 double units for a total of 28 units.

I just about choked on my Corn Flakes when I opened my property assessment from the Town of Cochrane.

We live in a bareland condo on Quigley Drive consisting of 14 double units for a total of 28 units. Twenty of these units have single car garages and eight have double. These units all look the same and the square-footage is approximately the same – this is confirmed by an appraisal (for insurance purposes) that was done in 2014.

The assessment for my unit in 2013 was $301,700. Three years later it is $348,600, an increase of $46,900 or, approximately, 15.5 per cent. For our complex of 28 units we are looking at a difference of $54,000 from the highest to the lowest assessment, and that is just for this year. We contacted the town assessors and they are looking into it.

I am sure we are not the only ones affected by these ridiculous assessments. I urge everyone to take a look at their assessment and, if needed, file a complaint.
