Renewable energy development is the way forward

Congratulations on your excellent editorial of March 10, “Time to make hard calls on carbon.” It is indeed time we face the reality of continued use of fossil fuels.

Congratulations on your excellent editorial of March 10, “Time to make hard calls on carbon.”

It is indeed time we face the reality of continued use of fossil fuels. Not only does our dependence on this industry contribute to climate change, but it is continuing to degrade our environment, creating issues from air, water and land contamination to seismic events.

We need to count the overall cost of fossil fuels, including effects on our health, our agricultural industry and our children’s future. An excellent summary of the latest peer-reviewed scientific papers on the effects of the type of horizontal hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) that we have seen locally is available at: http://psehealthyenergy.org/site/view/1233

We must spend our limited funds on renewable energy development rather than continuing to support a dying industry.
