RVC council pushing envelope too far

Dear editor:

As a resident and taxpayer of Rocky View County (RVC) since 1984, my opinion of the tactics being used by the majority of council and underlying administration is absolutely disgusting and has crossed the line.

The reason for the Code of Conduct as presented appears obvious — don’t dare disagree with the majority vote in council — which I believe is strongly influenced by their patrons in the anonymous member developer group: treat the residents of RVC as mushrooms (kept in the dark); prevent Coun. Jerry Arshinoff and Coun. Al Sacuta from continuing to represent their constituents and RVC’s welfare in their honest and forthright manner; and remove democracy and Freedom of Speech from the agenda.

I really do believe the envelope has been pushed too far this time (again!).

I contacted the reeve Jan. 14 (no reply yet) asking when, how, and where the promised opportunity for public input would take place in regards to the out-dated, under-estimated $32 million municipal building.

With the debt load the municipality has at this time, maybe they should consider selling the piece of land purchased in 2009 and forget the palace.

In the present economy, it’s possible the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) grant from the provincial government to pay for this building could very well be cancelled. Guess where the money will come from then...yep, the taxpayers.

Good business sense doesn’t seem to exist, and certainly democracy (“the greatest good for the greatest number”) is going down the tube at an incredible rate of speed, thanks to the majority (6-3) vote that takes place in council on a regular basis.

What exactly is driving this majority?
