Santa Claus Parade a joy

As our dance studio closes for the Christmas holidays, I wanted to take the time to give a huge “hurray” and thank you to the organizing committee of the Cochrane Santa Claus Parade.

As our dance studio closes for the Christmas holidays, I wanted to take the time to give a huge “hurray” and thank you to the organizing committee of the Cochrane Santa Claus Parade.

Snap Dance Studios had over 50 dancers perform along the parade route on Dec. 12, and although exhausted by the end, everyone was smiling ear to ear. We are so appreciative of opportunities, like this parade, to get out into the community, strut our stuff and entertain the crowd.

As I walked the parade route 15 minutes prior to kickoff, I was struck by the number of Cochranites lining the streets in anticipation and excitement. This event does such an amazing job at bringing out the joy and spirit of Christmas on both sides of the equation; for entrants and spectators.

It was unfortunate, however, to receive the post-parade press release indicating the committee ran into obstacles and resistance which “had taken all the fun out of it.”

I think it’s good for all of us to take some time over the holidays to be thankful and appreciative for the volunteers in this town. It’s so easy to criticize others in their attempts to organize community events, when typically everyone is just doing their best with the circumstances they have been presented with.

To Spencer, Mick, Virginia, Carol, Liz and all the other volunteers who made the Cochrane Santa Claus parade possible, thank you from the bottom of our Snap hearts for all your hard work. I want you to know the joy that all our Snappers felt on parade day, and the joy that was returned to us from spectators as we danced down the parade route; their waves, smiles and cheers were infectious.

We look forward to 2017!
