Shout out to sports centre

Just wanted to give a shout out to a facility in our community that is truly exceptional. I have played hockey competitively for the women’s professional team, the Calgary Inferno, for the past six years.

Just wanted to give a shout out to a facility in our community that is truly exceptional.

I have played hockey competitively for the women’s professional team, the Calgary Inferno, for the past six years.

Two years ago I lost my rostered spot on the team as competition was raised and more national team members joined the Calgary team.

I stayed on as an affiliate but was frustrated in my lack of development as a player. How could I improve if I wasn’t playing?

That summer I invested in a year membership with Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports CentrE and it was the best money I have ever spent for my development. The centre has so many drop in programs and times that I was able to get on the ice as many times as I wanted to in the week – before work early in the morning, early afternoon shinny and even evening shinny.

The facility and times allowed me to get back on my game and last fall I made my team again. The feeling seeing my name back on my jersey was more than worth the hours put in.

I have seen, and visited, a large number of rinks across Alberta and none have such exceptional drop-in programs and times as Spray Lakes does. If you haven’t gone yet, I highly recommend it.

The sticks and pucks program is truly exceptional. Thank you Spray Lakes for putting my development and my future in hockey back in my hands.

Sincerely, Laura Dostaler
