Dear editor:
On March 26, Spray Lake Sawmills noted a letter in the Eagle titled, ‘Natural drainage is essential’ regarding watershed management and reclamation/reforestation and would like to take this opportunity to contribute to the discussion.
In particular, we appreciate the interest and the effort to explore in an open conversation the science and care behind road building, reclamation and reforestation specifically as it relates to forestry and forest management.
We want to join in the effort to help our community truly be able to engage in the dialogue around the topics addressed in the letter ensuring total transparency and helping to foster a true understanding of our methodology and best practices.
Respect for the environment we operate in is of the utmost importance to Spray Lake Sawmills and is a cornerstone of our mission statement.
The provincial regulations as well as our own internal standards are extensive and we have built a topic-specific page on our website regarding our processes with road building, reclamation and reforestation to share these requirements. We have included links to our planning process and are proud to demonstrate some ‘after’ pictures in a video that show how we deliver access roads back into their natural environment.
You can find this page on our website at spraylakesawmills.com/reclamation.
We build healthy forests and we look forward to continuing to share our methods and information resources with our community.
Ed Kulcsar, Spray Lake Sawmills
