Sir John A’s proposal to enfranchise First Nations people and women in the 1890s needs more exposure to all Canadians in the 21 st century. Ditto for the cancellation of that initiative by his liberal successor, W. Laurier. It was refreshing to see journalist Naomi Lakritz's column in the Calgary Herald on Aug. 13 bravely challenge the politically correct band wagon of misfits trying to re-write Canadian history by removing statutes, renaming bridges, buildings, schools, and whatever else eases their conscience. What is next? Doctors Banting and Best by the anti vaccination crowd; Alexander Graham Bell , inventor of the telephone? The latest source of political correctness comes from a capital city also known for its export of excrement into the Pacific Ocean. As a suggestion, the mayor and council of Victoria need to refocus on other issues such as the economy and the environment. Keith Booth
