Tax dollars wasted on Ghost Reservoir draw-down

A waste of tax dollars is giving a private corporate giant (TransAlta) millions of dollars to drain the Ghost Reservoir for supposed flood mitigation.

A waste of tax dollars is giving a private corporate giant (TransAlta) millions of dollars to drain the Ghost Reservoir for supposed flood mitigation. This was never the dam’s intended use when built in the 20th century, it was for power generation!

It is a fact that even if we were to get the rains we saw in 2013 that this dam would not prevent a flood but only buy the city some time.

As a result of the dam being drained so low in 2015 the tax payers also doled out more than $400,000 to have fish relocated to the main body of water from low areas where they would have perished.

The government was supposed to trench the bottom of the lake to create a channel for the following year so that the fish would find their own way out ,but due to political blunders this did not happen. So, once again, this will have to take place so they can again be seen as doing something to protect those down stream.

The government should let TransAlta operate the dam the way it has for the last 87 years!
