This past weekend, a boy was seriously injured jumping off a cliff into the Jumping Pound Creek. The water is very low and rocks lay concealed below the surface. Apparently the boy's knee was badly cut up and his leg was fractured. About 15 first responders arrived and called for a helicopter evacuation. The boy and three friends trespassed across our land to gain access to the cliff. We, the land owners, are most concerned for the safety of the kids and hope the boy fully recovers from his injuries. We are very thankful he did not die. We wish that parents everywhere teach their kids about river safety and also about how floods erode the bottoms of cliffs causing collapse of overhanging rock, and how floods continually move riverbanks and huge rocks, so that what is unseen below the surface of the water becomes unpredictable. Cliff jumping is extremely dangerous. As sad as this incident is for the boy, he got lucky that it was not worse. Erik Laerz
