Dear editor:
Thank you Cathy Fenton of Fenton Bus Lines for letting the public know we don’t have to slow down anymore at Westbrook School on Highway 22 north of Cochrane.
Since receiving a speeding ticket in 1991 for going over the 30 km in a school zone, I always made sure to slow down. Imagine my surprise to read in the Cochrane Eagle after all these years we no longer have to reduce our speed. I, however, have a few questions:
Why did the signage stay on the highway informing us to reduce our speed during certain daytime hours and only get removed recently?
How could Westbrook School have helped to ensure the signage was removed sooner? Drivers slowed down to 30 km an hour for years so needlessly, when they weren’t required by law to do so. Also, this could have avoided unnecessary aggravation for bus drivers, etc.
Where is Alberta Transportation and Cochrane RCMP responsibility in all this?
Surely, I’m not the only driver who is grateful to have been informed not to have to slow down by Westbrook School.
