I, for one, commend Lyle Carbert on having the great courage to express his opinion.
I suspect that the majority of feedback to his letter will be on the negative side. Is that because he is wrong or because many citizens have become too scared to publically express their opinion in our society that is being slowly suffocated by political correctness and so-called “tolerance?”
Already we are seeing the financial (and, frankly, surreal) impacts of societal acceptance of transgender issues, with individuals complaining about the long waiting times in Alberta for “sex change surgery” (I don’t even know whether or not that is an acceptable term these days).
The taxpayer will be footing the bill for these complex and expensive procedures. Who and how will we determine whether spending public money on such procedures is more or less important than spending money on surgeries for tumour removal, chronic back pain etc, etc.
If one of your ageing relatives is on a three-year waiting list for hip or knee replacement surgery as a result of monies being diverted to support transgender issues, will you applaud the so-called “progress” that our society is claiming?
I also would like to thank the editorial staff of the Cochrane Eagle for making the decision to publish Mr. Carbert’s letter.
