Town development debate is a distraction

Interesting that Cochrane town council will debate whether or not to stop development in our town to allow our infrastructure time to catch up.

Interesting that Cochrane town council will debate whether or not to stop development in our town to allow our infrastructure time to catch up. In the meantime, the county surrounding us is proposing one development after the other!

Good distraction folks! While Harmony builds to our south, Montera Lakes and Cochrane Lakes builds to our north, and Now Glenbow builds to our east, the town will be faced with more than 40,000 more residence depending on the services in our town, and the only way they can get to us is by car. Not by transit, not by train, but by car and we have not got the roadways in place to care for our own residents not to mention 40,000 other people a stones-throw away. To make things more difficult, these new county residents do not pay taxes to our town but to the Rocky View County.

I have not heard concerns from our council or administration about the out of control Rocky View development! Rocky View pays little to our recycling center, ice rinks, our pools or parkways, but its citizens use these services because they are here and close.

Time for some action! Call our local provincial MP (Cameron Westhead email: [email protected]) and tell him we need help, and our roads need to be fixed! Call our local councillors and demand some action from them, not the silence as we have now. (Cochrane.ca/council) or 403-851-2500, ask for Ivan Brooker our mayor.

At the very least, contact the head planner for Rocky View and tell him no more development until the county pays its fair share! Stefan Kunz, email: [email protected]

This is our town and we as residents have a right to be heard and we have a right to enjoy our own town services without having to fight traffic every day.

Miles Chester (former town councillor and concerned resident of Cochrane)
