Dear editor:
Unfortunately, a young life was ended this past week on the rail line, but it has shown a major flaw in the design of this town.
That train, where it stopped, blocked all crossings making Hwy 22 the only way to get either north or south, creating a major jam of traffic.
What if it were a train derailment and, even worse, a fire at the same time? What of the people up the hill in Sunset Ridge if they needed emergency help?
The house fire that happened June 22 in Sunset was an almost near disaster; the town had minimal staff that night (four full time people), and they were alone for 45 minutes before other units from surrounding areas showed up.
It is nice to know that a remote fire hall is located about two minutes away at Sunset Square, but it is unmanned, no funding.
It is very easy for town council to allow more homes to be built, but what of the key services that go with more people, especially in a ‘city’ that is expanding all over the place.
