Response to Mr. Spillers letter “Don’t be duped by Kenny”
I have two comments:
First, it’s apparent that Mr. Spiller wouldn’t recognize a true conservative if he tripped over one. A true conservative is a citizen who believes in personal responsibility and self reliance in every aspect of his or her life, taxation rates as low as possible (necessary only for national or provincial requirements such as health care, education, policing and military), market driven wage and salary growth, the absolute elimination of all government subsidies and non governmental organization (NGO) grants, no economic interference in business and only the red tape and regulation that may be necessary to permit entrepreneurial enterprise and economic growth, combined with no or low government debt and deficits.
Second, Spiller tells us that “true conservatives have no intention of supporting Kenny and the NDP government is doing what the people want it to do”?? True conservatives will very probably support Kenny, but I seriously question the second part of his statement. Mr. Spiller, I challenge you to tell me how I, a true conservative as described above, could possibly be satisfied with the “Motley Notleys”, considering the imposition of increased taxes of all kinds and all levels, government imposed wage growth (that has driven many small businesses out of business), more government interference in our daily lives, expanded regulations and the establishment of government policies that insidiously coerce citizens to obtain government support as opposed to personal responsibility.
The current NDP government debt has reached staggering proportions that your grand children will be paying for. Meanwhile Notley brags about improved NDP support for health care for Albertans, while eliminating the Lt Governor sponsored funding of the Circle on Mental Health and Addiction to support Alberta veterans that suffer from PTSD?
To conclude, the editorial by Lindsay Seewalt, “UPC candidates gauge constituency concerns” during which the two local conservative candidates have heard from many citizens resulting in confirmation of this true conservatives position.
The UCP is as close to a conservative party as we may ever again elect in Alberta, because the once great “Alberta Advantage” has disappeared from Canada, driven out by our current governments, both Provincially and Federally.
