Dear editor:
To our dear friends at Arrowhead Veterinary Centre, thank you for taking such good care of Parker for the past four years. At the age of 15-and-a-half years, Parker went to sleep peacefully and calmly at home with the assistance of Dr. Libby and Val July 24.
When we moved to Cochrane from Calgary in 2011, I asked a friend with a senior cat who she used for veterinary care and she enthusiastically recommended Dr. Libby. After meeting Dr. Libby, I knew immediately that the folks at Arrowhead would provide the best veterinary care for Parker. Libby would always take the time to listen and compassionately cared about Parker’s needs. She would never recommend unnecessary treatments for Parker knowing his age and underlying medical conditions, but when she would say, “If he was my dog, I would do (insert recommendation here)”, I would listen.
When it was time to start having conversations about euthanizing Parker, I asked if Libby would come to the house. In our dog’s old age, he became very anxious on car rides and especially anxious at routine vet visits. Brent and I knew that we did not want him to be stressed in the last few hours of his life. Libby and her tech, Val (who knew of Parker’s idiosyncrasies and had been involved in his care over the years), arrived at the house the afternoon of July 24. Parker, who was having a nice long afternoon nap, was rested and relaxed when they arrived. Within a half an hour of Libby and Val arriving Parker went to sleep surrounded by love.
We would like to thank all of those at Arrowhead who have cared for Parker over the years. The staff who have treated Parker have all been wonderful.
Special thanks to Janine, Julie and Yvette who we dealt with regularly. They have always greeted us like family. To all of those we never met, but who cared for Parker, we thank you!
Brent and Trisha McPherson, with special love from Parker
