Warm Water Therapy Pool Society thankful for support

Dear editor:

Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre is abuzz with equipment building the new aquatic/curling facility. After years of planning it’s finally happening, and how fortunate that Cochrane and area citizens will soon be able to enjoy so many new services and activities.

Warm water aquatic exercises have been recognized for their healing properties since the days of the Romans…they are not a new phenomenon. Over the centuries, researchers have defined why they work and how to harness their benefits.

Today, there is a real awareness of the value of exercise for everyone. Sports and exercise classes help us all to keep in shape, yet the Alberta Centre for Active Living says that in 2013 only 59 per cent of adults were active enough to achieve any health benefits, and that only 35 per cent of those over 65 years were physically active.

“Researchers say if the benefits of exercise could be packaged in a pill, it would be the most prescribed medicine.” (AHS Apple Publication – Spring 2013).

But not all of us can exercise on land because of varying limitations, such as chronic diseases, injury, surgery and stroke recovery, ageing, etc.

That’s why the Town of Cochrane so wisely included a special pool, which will permit people with limited mobility to exercise in fully accessible warm water with specially designed equipment and exercises.

The Cochrane and District Warm Water Therapy Pool Society is delighted that this year the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation has chosen our group as the recipient of the proceeds from the annual fundraising Tournament of Aces.

We ask that you support the Tournament of Aces golf tournament on our behalf. These funds will benefit all those who will find healing and wellness in a welcoming warm water therapy pool within the beautiful new aquatic centre.

The Tournament of Aces will be held at The Links of GlenEagles Oct. 3.

For details about how to participate in golfing, sponsorship or the silent auction, please contact Taylor Kimmett at 403 585-7274 or [email protected] or at lindsaykimmett.net.

We hope to see you on the golf course!
