With the impending imposition of the new NDP Carbon Tax, how are we as consumers to know how much it is actually costing us as it will apply, either directly or indirectly, to all the goods and services that we purchase?

I know that the NDP have touted a number which the opposition has countered with a much higher figure, but who actually knows? I suspect that the NDP numbers are as accurate as a weather forecast for 2 p.m. on a day 20 days hence. Unless the new tax is shown as a line item on every bill, invoice, receipt that we get for the purchase of a good or service we will never know. We will be left in the dark, perhaps literally as well as figuratively, especially with the increases to utility cost.

The NDP say that they will be sending a “rebate” to the majority of Albertans in early January of 2017. How can they rebate something that has not been paid as yet? To my mind, it is just a bribe to mollify the people in the hopes that they will not realize the full impact that will be made on their economic situation. Another fine example of the use of our tax dollars. How much is the bureaucracy going to cost us to manufacture and send these “rebates?”

I believe that the NDP is lucky that we are in Canada. Not to discount the rallies that have been held, I suspect that in many other countries the protests would have involved tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people protesting outside of government offices demanding that the government step down. I guess that the government is lucky that we are in Canada where the people are relatively complacent.
