I am sure that Coun. Marni Fedeyco is acting with good intentions to save lives, however the solution she and concerned parents propose will not get the results intended. Who wants to live in a town where "curb crawling" as the British call it becomes mandatory? You might as well trade your car for a horse to avoid crawling over the speed bumps. The problem is the pedestrians who presume that cars will stop if they see them crossing the street. Many of them step right out into traffic wearing ear phones and pay no attention to their surroundings. There is little consolation in being killed while having had the right of way. In Edmonton, once on a dark night I crossed a street with cars stopping to let me go bye. As I was in front of the lead car, it was rear ended and shot towards me and would have hit me had I not managed to leap out of harms way. Some years ago on 17 Avenue SW in Calgary, I was waiting at a red light when a senior stepped unto the street and was hit and killed by a car making a left turn. The driver had not seen him as the sun was blinding him and the senior did not check if it was safe to go, but relied on the driver to act prudently. I, for my part, do not rely on other people to ensure my safety. When I am a pedestrian, I do everything to avoid having cars waiting for me on crosswalks. I suppose that is why I am still alive..
