Accused in drunk driving death won't be back in court until 2014

The man accused of killing 17-year-old Brandon Thomas in a drunk driving accident last December won’t be in court again until January 2014.

The man accused of killing 17-year-old Brandon Thomas in a drunk driving accident last December won’t be in court again until January 2014.

Representing the accused, Ryan Jordan Gibson, in Cochrane Provincial Court March 7, defense lawyer Alain Hepner requested the preliminary hearing be moved to Calgary, where the it can be held over three consecutive days.

The hearing is slated for Jan. 6-8.

The 22-year-old Calgary man is facing six charges — including impaired driving causing death — in the Dec. 6 crash.

The Cochrane teen was struck head on by a pickup truck heading south in the northbound lane of Highway 22. Thomas, who was heading north in a Subaru Impreza, was trapped in his vehicle after the collision and died at the scene.
