With January now in the rearview, it’s time for a reminder to keep those finance-related resolutions in check. No pun intended.

Now, thanks to the technology gods, you don’t have to rely on pen and paper to keep track of your spending. Here are five well-reviewed apps to keep your finances simple and at your fingertips.

Mint: This app, owned by Intuit Inc., supports all major Canadian banks and can be set up in about five minutes. You can either create your own budget, or let the app take the wheel — Mint can create a realistic budget based on your spending habits.

What’s more, the app updates your information every night and categorized your spending for you in an easy to understand chart.

DebtMinder: Whether you’re saddled with debt or tracking payments, this app will soon have you on the road to debt-free living. Designed for iPhone and iPad.

The application will allow you to personalize your plan to alleviate debt and has easy-to-read charts that will allow you to see exactly where your money is going. The program can be synced between devices so all members of the household can watch numbers drop.

Manilla: From account management to custom account creation, Manilla satisfies many a financial need. Those travel reward points? This application can monitor those as well.

Manilla Bill Share allows you to securely manage accounts with friends and family — like a child or a spouse. This tool also provides a platform to discuss a bill or an account.

The online manager supports more than 3,500 providers, including major cell phone carriers, major airline and hotel programs, online coupons from Groupon, and magazine subscriptions.

Toshl Finance: If you often find yourself on the road for work, consider Toshl a travel buddy. The app works with a variety of currencies and can track expenses as well as budget. It will even allow you to separate your travel budget from your day-to-day costs.

This application does all the usual finance managing too — organizing your bills and sending you alerts when invoices are due. This isn’t your traditional money manager, the funky logos are a far cry from spreadsheets.

Royal Bank of Canada: Or Scotiabank, or TD Bank, or ATB Financial, or CIBC. Everyone should have their bank’s app downloaded onto some handy piece of technology.
