If you’ve wandered into Bragg Creek’s Creekers Market and Deli or Redwood House this month, you may have found your attention captured by the gallery-worthy artwork on display.
The paintings are the focal point of a Redwood Meadows Firefighters’ Association fundraiser. The organization, a registered charity, provides support for Redwood Meadows Emergency Services (RMES).
“These are great works of art by Canadian artists,” remarked Gary Robertson, president of the firefighters’ association. “This fundraiser is a great opportunity to add a piece of original artwork to your collection, but also to support the association, which in turn supports local emergency services.”
The artwork, a collection of 30 pieces, was privately donated to the organization this past spring. The entire catalogue of paintings has been professionally appraised at about $37,000.
Artists featured in the collection include British Columbia’s David Langevin, and Calgary painters Lorna Dockstader and Alice Helwig. Individual pieces range in appraised value — from $700 to $4,000.
Catalogues of the work are available at Redwood House and Creekers Market. While the appraised values are listed next to the paintings, Robertson said the association is open to offers on the art.
The art initiative made its debut in November at the Kananaskis Country Christmas Fine Arts and Craft Sale. Robertson said the campaign is expected to continue through to the end of December.
Any paintings that remain following the month-long sale will be offered up at next year’s firefighters’ ball. Proceeds will supplement the development of RMES’s training projects and facilities.
