Banff-Cochrane Wildrose nominee confirmed

Scott Wagner has been confirmed as the candidate for the Banff-Cochrane riding for the Wildrose Party, as of Jan. 23.

Scott Wagner has been confirmed as the candidate for the Banff-Cochrane riding for the Wildrose Party, as of Jan. 23.

“I am elated to be the Wildrose candidate for Banff-Cochrane,” said Wagner, a retired businessman, married and a father of two, who resides south of Hwy 1 off Hwy 22.

“There is much work to do in the coming months as talk circles that there will be an (early) spring election…I expect to have my literature printed within the next couple of weeks and look forward to knocking on doors.”

The Wildrose Party announced last week that they would select a new party leader June. 6.

Under new interim leader Heather Forsyth, Wagner is confident the Wildrose would show through action and not words that they are the logical alternative to a ‘fiscally responsible government’ that continues to be ‘mismanaged under Prentice’s leadership’.

Following the announcement last month that former nominee Paul McLean decided to withdraw from the race, Wagner remained the sole candidate in the running.

McLean’s decision was likely impacted by the shocking news that left the official opposition party reeling — when former party leader Danielle Smith and eight MLAs announced that they were crossing the floor to the PC Party in late December 2014.

Last week, five other Wildrose candidates were announced: Ali Waissi (Calgary-East); Chris Kemp-Jackson (Calgary-Glenmore); Kathy MacDonald (Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill); Jae Shim (Calgary-Hawkwood); and Jaye Walter (Spruce Grove-St. Albert).

Albertans who wish to purchase or renew their party membership will be required to do so 14 days prior to the June 6 leadership vote.

Current PC Party MLA Ron Casey announced his re-election campaign Jan. 19; the PC Party is running open nominations in all 87 constituencies.
