This Saturday, May 10, local bargain hunters can score deals at the sixth annual National Garage Sale for Shelter, all in an effort to break the cycle of family violence.
The garage sale will be set up in the parking lot behind the Royal LePage Allstar Real Estate office on Main Street. Bargain hunters can start browsing the donated items at 9 a.m.; the sale ends at 2 p.m.
One hundred per cent of the funds will go to support the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and ultimately be given back to Cochrane Family and Community Support Services to fund long-term solutions to end family violence.
“All of the proceeds from this event are given back to the community,” said Debbie Leah-Phibbs, of Royal LePage Allstar Real Estate.
“In the past, we’ve had fabulous items donated to our sale; from exercise equipment, to furniture, to collectibles.”
Individuals and businesses are encouraged to drop off any garage sale items at the office during business hours. Phibbs said donations will be accepted until the morning of May 10.
Last year, the garage sale raised more than $2,800. This year, a minimum goal of $3,000 has been set, said Phibbs.
Since 2009, the Canada-wide sale has raised more than $1.6 million for the shelter foundation.
