The Bearspaw band of the Stoney Nakoda Nation will finally be opening a new Centex gas bar, convenience store (including a hot food area) and car wash Nov. 29, after more than a year of planning and construction.

“This will be an opportunity for all Nation members for employment,” said Bearspaw CEO, Robert Shotclose, adding that around 12 people will be hired full-time and part-time to adequately staff the gas station and convenience store shifts.

Ike Dewji, who has more than 20 years of experience in the industry and is from outside of the Nation, will manage the Centex gas bar. A Subway restaurant is slated to open in the same complex in early 2014.

Shotclose said Bearspaw human resources is in the midst of recruiting and sees no further delays to opening the facility.
