The basement of the Nan Boothby Memorial Library is home to an intricate sorting system. There are boxes upon boxes of books, CDs and DVDs, along with photos and prints — all sorted in preparation for the fifth annual Beyond Words, a library benefit sale.
The book sale, put on for the second time by the Friends of the Nan Boothby Memorial Library, is set for June 1-2 during regular library hours. The second day of the event will slash the prices of the remaining items by 50 per cent.
“Each of our fundraising initiatives are successful — but this is our biggest fundraiser,” said Anne Beck, chair of the Friends organization.
The sale will boast a wide selection of books, CDs and DVDs from a variety of categories, such as non-fiction, local interest, self-help and children’s. Books are dropped off year-round for the event and can be dropped off at the library until the end of May.
Proceeds of the sale will go to the board of the library, explained Beck, to be put towards their fundraising goals for the year. Funding will be doled out by the board, to cover library extras, like programming, she added.
Besides the Beyond Words book sale, the charitable group plays host to a variety of fundraising initiatives — from slide shows featuring the works of local artists, to the coin catcher program.
Beck said the group has plans to conquer a few library-orientated goals following the book sale. Eventually, benches will be set outside of the Nan Boothby doors, she mentioned, and the youth/teenager area of the reading hub is due for a revamp.
The volunteer group meets the fourth Thursday of each month in the library’s board room. New faces are always welcome.
The sale will get underway at 10 a.m. June 1 and run until 5 p.m. On June 2, sale hours are noon to 4 p.m.
