Blowing snow advisory expected to slow commutes in Cochrane

A blowing snow advisory is in effect for Cochrane and parts of Rocky View County.

A blowing-snow advisory is in effect for Cochrane and parts of Rocky View County Thursday.

Environment Canada issued the advisory earlier Dec. 16, warning of reduced roadway visibility of up to 800 metres or less due to snow and windy weather conditions expected throughout the afternoon and evening.

Wind gusts from the northwest are hitting the area at speeds of 60km/h, creating hazardous driving conditions in some locations where snow continues to fall.

The worst conditions are expected along Highway 2 and exposed areas just west of the highway, according to the advisory, which also reminds motorists to use caution and adjust their travel to the weather.

A blowing-snow advisory is also in effect for areas of Mountain View County including Sundre, Olds, Cremona, Carstairs and surrounding municipalities.

Driving conditions should improve sometime this evening as wind and snow is expected to ease.
