The Boys & Girls Club of Cochrane & Area is inviting the community to its club house today (Sept. 24) from 4-7 p.m. The carnival-themed event offers Cochranites an opportunity to see the programs and services as well as a chance to meet the staff.

There will be a bouncy castle and carnival games set up for people to enjoy, followed by a Papa John’s pizza dinner. While there will be treats, the club is also providing taste samples from its healthy snack initiative.

One of the new programs launched in January is the Safe Couch program for at-risk youth who are at risk of becoming homeless.

Host families registered with the program provide a safe space in their home for youth needing a place to stay.

Another new addition is Get Busy, a physical and nutritional literacy youth program. Its focus is teaching fitness activities apart from the gym and to start eating healthy on your own.

Game Tech, a program that teaches introductory video game programming, will be offered in the fall. The free program will take place on evenings.

The club is also now offering youth drop-ins from 2-6 p.m. every day.

The Boys and Girls Club will also be holding a community barn dance Oct. 24 to raise money for the organization’s various programs.
