Bragg Creek area songwriters continue to make their mark on the Alberta scene.
Springbank’s Leanne Copithorne of the Elbow River Band and Robb Moss of Moss Creek Studio in Bragg Creek have both received nods from their peers this spring season.
Both singer/songwriters were finalists in the 2015 Calgary Folk Festival songwriting contest held last weekend and the South Country Fair songwriting contest held earlier this spring.
“It brings credibility and encouragement to what you’re doing as an artist,” said Moss, who has made it as finalist twice in each competition.
Moss and Copithorne have graced stages together in recent years, beginning four years ago at an open mic in Bragg Creek.
Copithorne and her daughter and fellow band member, Kaitlynn Smith, have lent their backing vocals to Moss’ original compositions — including a recent performance of his tribute to songwriter Gram Parsons, “Twenty Thousand Roads”.
Moss said his second album, Wish I Wrote that Song, continues to garner radio play across international airwaves.
The Elbow River Band is back in the studio recording their sophomore album, a follow-up to their successful 2014 debut release, Redtail Flyer.
