Bragg Creek Trail connector awarded a provincial grant

Bragg Creek Mountain Woods Health Services board, which is a partner that helped establish the Care in the Creek Medical Centre, has been awarded a grant from the province’s Thrive on Wellness program.

The money will go toward the Banded Peak Trail connector, an initiative launched by the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association, which will fill a gap that currently exists in trail system.

The Thrive on Wellness program aims to support residents of rural communities by helping them maintain healthy eating habits, active living, healthy lifestyles and preventing disease.

The current Banded Peak Trail connects the Banded Peak Elementary School and the Bragg Creek Community Centre.

By providing the connector path, members of these centres will be able to access trails within the Bragg Creek Provincial Park, creating a significant looping opportunity for trail users, a report to council explains, and provide residents a chance to remain active.

Doctors Sara Wiesenberg and Les Cunning from Care in the Creek endorsed the grant donation, saying that anything that encourages people to get outside and exercise will have their full support.

The connector trail is expected to be complete this summer.

Anyone wishing to volunteer their time to prepare and build the connector loop is encouraged to do so.

Visit braggcreektrails.com or mountainwoodshealth.com for volunteer opportunities or for further information on the trail and those involved.
