Plug in your vehicles tonight and bundle up, or rather don't go outside at all. Environment Canada is calling for extreme winds chills of -40 to -45 C overnight Thursday in parts of Rocky View County, including near Cochrane.

A weather warning was issued by the national weather service at 3:40 p.m. Dec. 16 and is in effect for areas in Mountain View County as well as Airdrie, Crossfield, Bottrel, Madden and near Cochrane, in Rocky View County.

To reduce risk of hypothermia, Environment Canada recommends dressing warmly and in layers, using a wind resistant outer layer.

It's also ill-advised to leave pets outside in extreme cold and pet-owners should limit outings and keep walks short.

Extreme wind chill values are expected to improve by early this weekend.

A blowing snow advisory is also still in effect for the Cochrane area.
