BVHS to connect the community with amazing work by Cochrane students

ROBCON will run on Monday, January 15 at Bow Valley High School (BVHS) from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Anyone interested in exactly what the kids are up to in school these days is invited to a glimpse of the wild and wacky at BOBCON on Monday, Jan. 15 at Bow Valley High School (BVHS) from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

BOBCON is two events in one: it is a showcase of the amazing work the options classes at Bow Valley produce and it is a fundraiser for the Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area. (the “BOB” in “BOBCON” comes from the Bow Valley mascot, the Bobcat.)
Options classes are those that fall outside what most would consider core/traditional classes like math, history, etc., and may include such things as communication and technology, to fashion, drama, music, visual arts, and computer science, photography, food, and gaming design.

The “why” behind BOBCON is simple: BVHS wants to connect the Cochrane community while showcasing the amazing work being done by Bow Valley students.

BOBCON will include things like art, design, performance and innovation.
Enterprise Innovation instructor Stefan Rasporich said one of the highlights will take place at 5:30, when the comedy improv group takes to the stage to show off their creative chops.

He said he’s jazzed to see the first live performance in front of an audience for the Theatre Sports improv group, which he coaches.

“I think it’s going to be great,” he said.

He also teaches gaming design, which makes him one of the few instructors (perhaps in the world) equipped to tell kids to fool around in class, or else.

“I say, ‘If you stop playing games, then we’re going to have to do some work,’” Rasporich said with a laugh.

“So yes, I can justify playing games in my classroom, and that’s been a career goal of mine.”

As an 11-year-old, he was interested in theatre and programming computer games.

Families can eat dinner, watch the amazing performances and attend the carnival.

Tickets will be available for purchase (cash and debit accepted) for those who want to enjoy the food. Tickets will also be required for some activities, but general admission and the performances are all free. Any questions about BOBCON can be directed to Juliet McDonald, at [email protected].

The high school is located at 2000 River Heights Drive in Cochrane.
