Dubbed by the Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) as ‘the coolest weekend of the year’, the annual ATCO Gas Cochrane WinterFest is but a pony ride, sled pull and ice skate away.
Families looking to check out the multitude of kiddie activities can head to the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Park from noon-5 p.m. on Jan. 25-26; admission is free for children four and under and $5 for kids five and up.
Brooks Tower, CAES director, is still looking for businesses to show their community spirit and sponsor the event.
“A big key right now is getting the sponsors needed to make WinterFest happen. There’s this idea out there that only bigger businesses sponsor events, and that idea couldn’t be more wrong,” explained Tower. “If you’re a business in this town or area, we can help each other make this town, our event, and your business better.”
New on the queue this year will be a half-pipe area for snowboarders, performances by the Cochrane High School jazz band and choral group, a snow hill for sledding (weather-permitting) and a chance for hockey buffs to skate with local hockey mentors.
“We have the Cochrane Generals getting involved in this year’s WinterFest. We’ll have an area set up for kids to take shots on the Generals’ goalies and we’ll have another area set up for kids to skate alongside Cochrane Generals players.”
