The Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) is asking people to ‘Meow it Forward’ this Jan. 24 in honour of a favourite shelter cat, Norman.
Norman was a stray tomcat rescued from the streets of Cochrane in 1998 and he spent his days greeting visitors, staff and volunteers at CAHS for 15 years until he passed away in January of 2014.
Norman also worked as a companion animal tester to determine how well a potential dog or cat adoptee may get along with cats.
“It’s a measure of the love our staff and volunteers had for Norm that, in the shelter’s lunch room, there is a large framed memorial of Norm, with thoughts and remembrances,” said Brooks Tower, fund development officer with CAHS.
On Jan. 24, all adoptions of cats six months or older will be by donation rather than a fee, with all donations going to Norman’s Fund. Tower said the fund was created as a way of remembering an ‘important part of the shelter family’. All of the ‘Meow it Forward’ proceeds will go towards the care and upkeep of the cats at CAHS.
He also pointed out that all purchases from Norm’s Nook would be directed towards Norman’s Fund.
