After performing more than a 100 shows a year, Newfoundland native-turned-Calgarian Gregg Bolger finally has an album to call his own.

Rooted in modern country, Bolger will be showcasing some of the material off his 2013 self-titled debut at his one-night performance at Killarney’s Cochrane Jan. 11.

Bolger reflects on his recording experience at Springdale, Nfld.’s Sevenview Studios with producers Clint Curtis and Steve Clarke.

“It was definitely good to bring someone else (a producer) in, for the extra set of ears, if nothing else,” said Bolger. “A lot of the songs, I feel the boys brought them to a new level.”

A structural designer by day, the father of two said he has slowed down on the weekend gigs since moving to Calgary two years ago, opening up more time to write and record.

With healthy album sales in Nfld. and steady online purchases, available at greggbolger.com, Bolger recently received good news that one of the singles off the album, “Small Town Summertime”, has been picked up by Los Angeles indie label, Crucial Music.

“The first step was being accepted by them — which was huge,” said Bolger, adding that it’s now a waiting game for the right film or television soundtrack opportunity to come up.

Bolger released his fourth, and likely final, single off the album on New Year’s Day, “Grow”.

“I wrote it three years ago…it’s about my kids and how you watch them grow up and you hope you set them on the right path.”

Bolger said his albums would be available at the show, which will be rounded out with favourite sing-a-longs.

The show begins at 8:30 p.m. and reservations are recommended.
