Hosted by the Stoney Nation Employment Centre, the fifth-annual Stoney Nation Career Fair gets underway Feb. 6 at the Morley Community Gymnasium.
Invitations have been extended to more than 100 businesses, craftsmen and training institutions, said Danette Rider, the program coordinator at the Stoney Nation Employment Centre.
She said she anticipates the gymnasium to fill with nearly that many representatives, from industries ranging from oil and gas, to arts and crafts.
In addition to the businesses, a handful of universities and colleges are slated to be there, including Mount Royal University, University of Lethbridge and Saskatchewan’s First Nations University of Canada.
“The career fair is about highlighting the employment opportunities out there and raising the awareness of our Nation of these opportunities,” said Rider.
The event is open to everyone from the Stoney community, as well as those in surrounding areas, but Rider said the fair is really geared towards inspiring the Nation’s children.
Invitations to the event have been extended to each of the schools in the community, starting with the elementary school.
“Dreams start from childhood, so we want to keep that excitement there,” she said. “We want them to keep planning to achieve their dreams.”
The job fair has been well-received on the Nation, said Rider. Growing every year, she said last year’s event brought about 45 different businesses and industries to Morley.
The event will run from 10 a..m. to 2 p.m.
